Well…jeesh, sorry everyone. I wish you could understand how busy Lacey and I have been lately. It has been badddd, just bad. Like you already knew, we were in Connecticut visiting Lacey’s family over the weekend, I have been ultra busy with my Master’s classes and work, Lacey just started a 40 hour week of training for the new job she just got, I need to fly up to New Jersey this next weekend to host a training session for work, I’m trying to negotiate salary for a new job offer that I just received and on and on. It never seems to end :) Time for a vacation

Now for the money update. We have had 2 confirmed increases in money and 2 unconfirmed increases. Our earnings from Google Adsense have increased to a total of $71.32. Not bad, not bad. Our automatic savings plan with EmigrantDirect.com has now increased to a total of $40.78 including interest earned and weekly $7 withdrawals from my bank account.

Our 2 unconfirmed increases (not counted / cashed in yet) are the spare change and the aluminum cans for recycling. We now have a hugggee pile of coke cans to crush and I think we have quite a bit of loose change laying around the house that needs to be counted, so that should add a little to the overall total.

6% saved!!! Not bad at all!

Over my weekend in Connecticut, I had one appointment with a seamstress for my sister’s wedding. Because she is plus sized, she is having her dress handmade by a seamstress. In order to make sure that the bridesmaids will match, the seamstress is also making our dresses. My sister’s dress would break my budget at $1,500 but my bridesmaids dress will be about $160 which is pretty reasonable.

Another thing is that I visited the Jessica McClintock store near my mother’s house. It’s quite a while before my wedding, but I wanted to take advantage of being so close to the Jessica McClintock store. Plus, I was able to find out about the dresses that I was interested in - whether or not they are going to be re-cut (aka. manufactured again). I tried on 4 dresses and found one that I like a lot. It’s a shorter length, but this will be suitable for my Las Vegas gondola wedding. It’s only $195 and the dress will be re-cut in a month, so I have some time to buy the dress that’s in my size. Jessica McClintock doesn’t do alterations, so if I buy from there I will have to find someone else to do my alterations. Here’s how I looked in my favorite dress.

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to let you know that there’d be a few days without posts. We are visiting family in Connecticut for the weekend, so we won’t be able to make any posts until Monday. I just wanted to keep you updated and apologize about the lack of posts.

Lacey has to get measured by a seamstress for a bridesmaid’s dress today for her sister’s wedding.  She’s excited.

There are many ways you might be able to save on a wedding, but one major item to save on would be your wedding cake. They can really become expensive as they become prettier and more extravagant. They are pretty important thought, so you will definitely want to have a nice, memorable wedding cake.

Here are 10 tips to help you save on your wedding cake:

1) If your cake is going to take extra effort to make and more time, it will certainly cost more. 6 tiers of cake will cost more than 2.
2) Instead of ALL cake, make the bottom section (tier) of the cake be a fake. Noone will have any kind of idea. You could use cardboard and frosting as a replacement. It is relatively common, surprisingly.
3) Buy store bought, bakery cakes that you can dress up to be prettier. That is very inexpensive to do and you could add wedding cupcakes and sheet cakes to spice it up.
4) Fondant? I don’t think so. Pass up on the fondant icing to save lots of money and go with the original, cheap, cake frostings. Noone will know.
5)Â Less guests = less cake eaters = less cake needed = less money spent = smile on your face.
6) Take a class, ask some friends, and learn how to make cakes on your own. Who knows, you might really enjoy it.
7)  Anything other than typical circle cakes will cost you extra. If you stick with circle, you can’t lose. Even square wedding cakes cost more.
8) Expect to pay around $1.00 - $6.00 per slice of cake. Crazy huh? They can even go as high as $15 per slice (gold and diamond sprinkles).
9) Decoration is what you pay for with wedding cakes, not the flavors. So, this should tell you to borrow cake decorations and style materials to make it look nice on your own. You could even ask for these cake decorations as gifts from people.
10) Buy a novelty cake and play it up to be fun and based all around your wedding them. This blog post shows all kinds of themed cakes that are fun and inexpensive.

Any other wedding cake ideas?
