Focus on FUN!!

The theme for today is that your wedding should be FUN!! I have a little secret for you, come on now and lean in close so I can whisper it in your ear… “Fun has nothing to do with expense or price. “ In fact, if you spend a lot of money on a pretentious display it can actually serve to set an atmosphere which is NOT fun. Elaborate decorations, elegant dining arrangements, expensive flowers, and ice sculptures on every table will certainly add to the ambiance, and if your primary goal is to impress or outdo your friends and relatives, then they may be important to you, but at the end of the day all of the material accompaniments will have absolutely nothing to do with the fun factor.

Let’s take a look at the most recent wedding video that is making the rounds of all the big talk shows and news programs.

JK Wedding Entrance Dance

This video is an excellent example of how you can introduce fun into your ceremony with absolutely zero expense. This creative couple decided to let the wedding party make a grand entrance set to a popular dance tune, and then just let everyone show off their inner moves. It had the entire congregation rocking and laughing and having FUN!! With a little ingenuity and the guts to try something different, the couple came up with an idea that they will never forget. In fact, as of the posting of this blog over 8.5 million people have seen this video in just the last week. The sheer volume of people watching it has proven that it hit a chord with a significant number of individuals across the globe. No one is talking about the decorations, the bridesmaid dresses, or even what the bride was wearing, but they ARE talking about the creative and fun entrances made by the party.

For me, I think it puts things into perspective. Every couple is different, and this type of entrance is not going to work for everyone, but the point of the exercise is to find a way to inject your personality into the event, and it will prove to be a lot more memorable than the material things that you surround yourself with that day. In many cases, people choose to save the surprises and humor for the reception rather than during the service at the church, especially if being married in a Catholic or more traditional ceremony where deviations from the normal service are either discouraged or even not allowed.

There is a multitude of ways for you to inject your personality into your wedding. A few such ideas are through the selection of the music, the vows you recite to each other, or even the way the wedding party moves down the aisle. Consider having a friend become ordained on the internet (often for around $50 USD) and then you have complete control over the ceremony from start to finish. Even if you choose to not liven up the wedding itself, there is a lot of opportunity to make the reception memorable through a choreographed dance routine, or by incorporating other hidden talents of your friends and relatives to liven up the party.
