Ways to Save for YOUR Wedding…

Weddings and wedding planning can cost thousands of dollars. Some are lucky and have financial help from their parents, friends and relatives, and others have to bear the financial burden themselves. Planning a wedding can take several months. When you start jotting down all the goods and services you will need to make your special day perfect it could cost many thousands of dollars.

If you really need to cut costs you should start with a list something like this:

• List of possible venues and their costs
• List of photographers and their costs
• List of caterers and their costs
• List of bridal shops to visit
• Budget allowed for bride’s, groom’s and wedding party’s attire
• Floral arrangements for venue
• Wedding bouquets

When you start adding up the costs of your wedding day, the sum could be astronomical. You have the cost of your wedding gown. You may also have the added cost of your bride’s maids, maid of honor, ushers, flower girl and ring bearer’s clothing. You will also need to pay the minister, rabbi, or other wedding officiate. Then there are the expenses after the wedding. The catering, and the cost of a rented venue for the reception all costs money. There are ways you can save money when planning your wedding.

There are so many things to think about when planning for your wedding. Who will do the catering? Who will do the photography? Do you have to hire a wedding planner? Maybe you or a friend of yours is talented enough to help out with making your day special. If you know people who freelance their services, you may be able to hire them at a lesser cost than if you chose a stranger.

Once you know when you want to get married the rest won’t be very hard to figure out. If you are the bride, you will probably want a few of your closest friends to be part of your wedding. A good way to save on the wedding budget is to ask your wedding attendants to either purchase or rent their own attire. You can have a beautiful wedding without adding financial burden to yourself, or your attendants by asking your bridal attendants to wear dresses or gowns that they already own.

You can save as much or as little for your wedding. Rather than spending huge amounts of money for flowers to adorn the church, or other wedding venue, you and a few friends can tackle this job. These days, there are more DIY (do it yourself) ways of planning weddings. You don’t have to plan your wedding the way your mother and grandmother planned hers. In this economy, it makes perfect sense to save where you can.

You may want to have a meal catered for the wedding party before the wedding, and you may also want a meal catered for the reception. This can get expensive. The cost of food is expensive, and then to have it catered is even more expensive. You don’t necessarily have to have a meal catered. However, if you want to have these meals catered you may want to cut down on the list of guests. You might want to invite 500 people, but is that feasible? Would you be associating with these same people if you were not getting married? If not, you might want to cut them from the list. The shorter the list the less food will need to be catered.

In summary, you can save money by interviewing several different florists, photographers, bridal shops. You may be able to get a special discount. You may not be able to get a discount, but it won’t hurt to ask. Times are hard. Just as you are feeling the crunch, so are the people who run these businesses feeling the crunch of this recession. If you can do without all the frills, you may be able to do a lot of the work yourself, or have your friends chip in to help you. You will certainly have a wedding to remember.
