The number of guests will affect the size of the wedding venue. There is no need to rent a large hotel conference room if the guest list has 25 names. If the families involved are close-knit and informal, they may prefer a more casual reception and feel stiff and unnatural in more exquisite surroundings. Have a family meeting well before the wedding to discuss areas where relatives can help. Enlist the services of any bakers, florists, limousine drivers or other professional service providers in your family.
Some of the largest wedding expenses are the clothing. This expense can be greatly reduced by renting or borrowing formal wear. If the bride is handy with sewing, she can purchase a plain wedding dress and upgrade it herself with beads, silk and other trim. If exact bridesmaid dresses are not a priority, allow the bridesmaids to wear their own dresses to the wedding.
Switching the setting of the wedding can add a unique quality to the service while reducing costs associated with renting large halls or churches. Outside ceremonies are very popular and a good choice if you live near a place of natural beauty such as the mountains or lake shore. If the wedding party is a small one, a wedding chapel can be a low-cost and convenient solution, as chapels are well-prepared and set up specifically for weddings.
A wedding does not have to be ‘cheap’ to be well budgeted. Devote a generous amount of time to the wedding budget to make sure that all of the essentials are cared for and that the budget is kept reasonable. An affordable wedding will allow for a great honeymoon and the best beginning to a happy marriage.
