Nice move on the dress and the photography. They can be two of your largest expenses.

Ever considered getting vendors to provide service in exchange for ad space on a wedding or recpetion program? Its an idea we knocked around, but didn't have enough time to fully explore.

You can also try Craigslist. That's where I got my video guy from. $500 for what most places want $2000 for.

Hey Lacey!

Love your site! I've been reading your posts and I know how hard wedding planning can be. I'm working on an online show all about weddings! I think you'd really enjoy it. It's a 3 - 5 minute show that features newlyweds giving brides to be advice on their special day.

Being a bride yourself, I'm sure you'd be able to gather great tips as well as share your ideas. The show is called Brideorama and the site is:

www.brideorama.com

Hope you enjoy it!

I say you had better be sure the guy has shot or assisted with a wedding before. To capture a wedding well, a photographer must anticipate the shot and be in position. Otherwise all you are going to get is posed pictures. If you want to save money on a photographer, try paring down the number of hours. Do you really need 12 hours of coverage?
Send them home early during the reception. After a certain point everyone is sweaty, disheveled and you are not going to buy those pictures anyway. Just my 2 cents.

Hi, I'm a wedding photographer and realized how clever your idea was to go with someone who specialized in art rather than weddings. However, you can get your wedding cake and eat it too! As an apprentice, I offer rates that compete even with your art photographer. No, I'm not pushing my own busienss! If you're still trying to make up your own mind about a wedding photographer, perhaps you could consider branching out into the apprentice photographer pool - we are hungry for work, work for peanuts, and can produce quality that is one notch below the $2500 wedding cost. I agree with the post above about Craigslist - I have found two clients myself that way and they are happy with my work.

Just a thought!

Look, I'm going to be direct here.

Do you really want to put your memories in the hands of a cheap photographer?

I'm sorry, but compare the work of a cheap photographer to a higher end photographer. If you can't see the difference, by all means go cheap and skip the photog all together. Or just give everyone disposable cameras and call it a day.
