It’s Been a While…

Unfortunately it’s been a while since we’ve posted anything. Tanner and I have been much busier. In fact, we have both moved from part-time to full time jobs. We’re both also taking a summer class twice a week for 4 hours a night. I’m also taking another 2 classes online. So, I apologize for the big time lapse. Hopefully we’ll both be settled in soon, and back to regular blogging.
An update:
- I purchased my wedding dress - I bought it at a small boutique. It was on their sale rack. It cost me $200, and the dress was marked down from $900. I love the dress, and it’s beautiful. I was able to reveal it to my mother (who visited me from CT) and my to-be mother-in-law at the same time, and they both love it.
and now, a tip about finding wedding services:
Using Myspace to Find Wedding Services
- That’s right, we’re on myspace and so are wedding vendors. I found a photographer who lives in Vegas, who studied art, not photography (so his pictures are artistic, not just snapshots), who offered to photograph me and Tanner ALL DAY for $400, and place the pictures on a cd for us, so we can use whatever cheap service we want to print the pictures. We don’t know if we’ll use him, but Myspace has proven effective at finding cheap services. I don’t know if it’s the best way, but definitely give it a try. We have had several offers from various vendors around the country.

Wow I really wish I had seen this site before I had gotten married. You really know how to save money even on easy things. I am going to pass along some of these tips to my sister. Thanks!

Nice move on the dress and the photography. They can be two of your largest expenses.
Ever considered getting vendors to provide service in exchange for ad space on a wedding or recpetion program? Its an idea we knocked around, but didn’t have enough time to fully explore.

What a great tip about MySpace! I have heard similiar things about Craigslist. Check them out too and good luck!

You can also try Craigslist. That’s where I got my video guy from. $500 for what most places want $2000 for.

Hey Lacey!
Love your site! I’ve been reading your posts and I know how hard wedding planning can be. I’m working on an online show all about weddings! I think you’d really enjoy it. It’s a 3 - 5 minute show that features newlyweds giving brides to be advice on their special day.
Being a bride yourself, I’m sure you’d be able to gather great tips as well as share your ideas. The show is called Brideorama and the site is:
www.brideorama.com
Hope you enjoy it!

I say you had better be sure the guy has shot or assisted with a wedding before. To capture a wedding well, a photographer must anticipate the shot and be in position. Otherwise all you are going to get is posed pictures. If you want to save money on a photographer, try paring down the number of hours. Do you really need 12 hours of coverage?
Send them home early during the reception. After a certain point everyone is sweaty, disheveled and you are not going to buy those pictures anyway. Just my 2 cents.

Hi, I’m a wedding photographer and realized how clever your idea was to go with someone who specialized in art rather than weddings. However, you can get your wedding cake and eat it too! As an apprentice, I offer rates that compete even with your art photographer. No, I’m not pushing my own busienss! If you’re still trying to make up your own mind about a wedding photographer, perhaps you could consider branching out into the apprentice photographer pool - we are hungry for work, work for peanuts, and can produce quality that is one notch below the $2500 wedding cost. I agree with the post above about Craigslist - I have found two clients myself that way and they are happy with my work.
Just a thought!

Look, I’m going to be direct here.
Do you really want to put your memories in the hands of a cheap photographer?
I’m sorry, but compare the work of a cheap photographer to a higher end photographer. If you can’t see the difference, by all means go cheap and skip the photog all together. Or just give everyone disposable cameras and call it a day.
