Make Your Own Keepsake Wedding Planner

Instead of buying a wedding planning book, such as Martha Stewart’s you can make your own unique wedding planner at home, from things you might even have lying around the house. I made a binder for myself, and a special binder for my sister as a gift for her engagement.

wedding planners beware, plan your own wedding

What you’ll need:
- 3-ring binder (the color of your choice, you may have one around the house)
- 10-12 tabbed dividers (like these, one or two packages of the 5 or 8 set should do)
- 10-12 plastic sheet protectors (only if you already have these, they can be kind of pricy, and you may not need them)
- 3 hole pencil case (filled with a 2 pens and 2 pencils, and preferably a small calculator so you can make calculations while you are with vendors)
- 3 hole punch that fits into a binder (optional, but may come in handy)
- Any decorations, pictures, or computer printouts from a computer program (I used Hallmark’s Card program to make me and my sister’s binders)
- Glue for decorations

I would try to find as many of these things around the house before you buy anything, you probably already have a binder, pens and pencils, a calculator, glue, and you may even have tabbed dividers.

As for the tabbed dividers, you will want to use these (or similar) labels:
- Calendar - this will be for keeping track of your countdown calendar, or the calendar of events
- Budget - Here is where you should keep a copy of your master list budget to refer to when speaking to vendors. Click here for a free one I have made for you!
- Stationary - invitations (I’ll have more on this topic later), guest list, postage, wedding programs, etc.
- Flowers and Decorations - all flowers for both the reception and the ceremony, and any other decorations
- Attire - wedding dress, headpiece and veil, accessories, groom’s attire, bridesmaid dresses, etc.
- Wedding Ceremony - ceremony location, officiant, musicians,
- Photography/Videography - engagement photos, wedding photos, newspaper announcements, albums, videotaping, etc.
- Reception - location rental, tables and chairs, tablecloths and place settings (some charge a seperate fee for this!) entertainment, wedding favors, etc.
- Wedding Cake - wedding cake, groom’s cake, cake topper, knife and server, etc.
- Food and Beverages - catering, beverage options, etc.
- Honeymoon - transportation, accommodations, entertainment, meals (don’t forget this, it can be a big expense so it’s best to plan before), clothing, etc.
- Miscellaneous - anything that doesn’t fit into these categories, marriage license, blood tests, gifts for attendants, transportation to and from ceremony and reception, any other expenses
